Harold had a recent heart attack and was being released from the hospital. Before leaving the hospital, he told hospital staff that he did not need home healthcare services since his daughter, Joyce would be taking care of him. He made this decision without consulting his daughter. We had concerns and contacted Harold and Joyce each day to ensure that he was getting the help he needed. After 4 days, when talking to his daughter, she indicated she was exhausted, frustrated and needed to get back to work the next day. We asked to speak to Harold and spoke with him about how home healthcare services could help and cleared up his confusion as to his worry that it would cost him. We made sure Medicare would cover the services. After determining he needed additional help and getting Harold’s agreement, we called Harold’s doctor to get home healthcare set up. The doctor’s nurse stated “You guys are the missing link!”.
